1. Crane and Lifting Equipment Services and Sales  

Rabutec has established crane services & workshop support facilities at Port Klang near Kuala Lumpur and at Tuas, Singapore. With the setting up of these service centres and the establishment of an in-house engineering department, Rabutec is able to provide comprehensive technical and services support for crane and lifting operations.


Our services include:
Refurbishment, repair and recertification of cranes of used lifting equipment and cranes
Supply of new / refurbished API cranes and lifting equipment, related parts and accessories
Maintenance and operations of cranes and lifting equipment
Assembly, installation, testing, commissioning of cranes and lifting equipment
Upgrade and retrofits including manriding applications


Rabutec is one of the larger crane refurbishment companies in the region. With our newly acquired facilities, the company has the ability to simultaneously refurbish 30 offshore cranes of all capacities (5 ton to 500 ton) per year. Our well trained technical teams include crane specialists, certified crane inspectors, hydraulics and mechanical specialists, and structural engineers.

Our engineering department is well equipped with latest high end engineering software to support the design services which are proactive with operational requirements. Software in our inventory includes Autocad, Inventor Pro, Nastran and Ansys. The softwares are operated by a talented team of experienced engineers and draftsmen. 

This capability has enabled Rabutec to carry out various retrofit designs and upgrades to old cranes to meet current industry standards. In addition, Rabutec is now able to design and fabricate special application lifting equipment and cranes meant for special purpose applications.


1.1 Refurbishment Process
Crane Refurbishment Process:

( i ) Cranes are completely disassembled and all the crane components are stripped down.
( ii ) Procedures for refurbishment is approved by independent certification or classification bodies like ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s or SGS.
( iii )

Defective parts are identified, repaired or changed. Only OEM or certifiable parts are used.

( iv ) Structural refurbishment includes MPI. Surface preparation and Refurbishment are in accordance to API standards including the application of a 3 coat marine paint system.
( v ) All refurbished components are tested and recertified as per applicable procedures. All parts purchased new are with certificates.
( vi ) Crane components are reassembled. Crane is assembled and function tested.
( vii ) Crane is installed on the facility / vessel and load tested. Certification by applicable independent class or certifying body.

2. Design and Manufacture of Custom Equipment  

2.1 Design, Fabrication, Assembly and Commissioning of Gangways (including heave compensated gangways)
Our R&D department is continuously tasked with finding new innovative solutions for operational challenges as the industry move towards hasher environment. In line with this, we have recently designed our own heave compensated gangways which are applicable in marine vessels, FPSO’s, and other floaters. Our gangways are light in design with operator friendly safety features. Rabutec manufactured gangway meets all applicable design and marine standards. The first gangway is now being built for an FPSO and is expected to be manufactured in around 7 months. Rabutec designed and manufactured gangway are not only safe and easy to use but are resilient, suitable for harsh environment and cost effective.

Heave Compensated Gangways:







The diesel engine powered hydraulic operated telescopic personnel walkway(called Gangway herein) is designed to be used to transfer personnel between a support vessel and a fixed platform.

The walkway is connected to the vessel by lifting the walkway from the park position and utilising the electro-hydraulic controls, manoeuvring the walkway so that the free end is placed on the fixed structure. Once landing has been completed, the walkway automatically enters free-floating mode.

The Gangway is self-sufficient in all its operations and is able to self-stow while not in use or in emergency conditions.

The walkway has three movement planes, slewing, luffing and telescoping. It is designed when connected between support vessel and fixed platform to remove the relative movements between the two installations.

The gangway will be able to do the following motions namely

  Slewing 270 or 360 degrees (TBD)
  Luffing +24 deg to -16.5 deg
  Telescoping 10m end to end

The walkway assembly consists of three primary components; these being the steel pedestal support structure, the rotating turret complete with A-Frame and hydraulic cylinders, and the telescoping bridge section (will be of Aluminium construction). The telescopic bridge section comprises a number of sub assemblies: one fixed outer bridge section, one telescoping inner bridge section, landing cone/shock absorber and access stairs assembly.

Once the walkway is in contact with the fixed installation (a shock absorber is located at the end of the bridge section and provides, within the landing cone the interface between the walkway and the fixed installation), the hydraulic system is automatically free-coupled and the walkway will follow the relative motion of the vessel and platform.
